What we do
The Fairest Cape Association advocates and encourages appropriate environmental behaviour that will result in sustainability of future generations through improved waste management.

We promote a cradle to cradle approach, or closed loop system, where waste minimisation from source production, through consumption to disposal is practised. The means through which we do this is by public awareness raising, education and training, capacity building and facilitation of partnerships. We interact with individuals, groups and institutions.

The objectives of the association are:
  • To increase awareness that waste is a resource
  • To make people aware of the volumes and nature of waste generated and their pollutant impact on the environment
  • To facilitate the development of systems to minimise, recover and add value to those resources
  • To enable groups to develop appropriate waste management options in partnership with local authorities
  • To influence the development of policy and legislation on waste
We support
  • Household service equity
  • Adequate and accessible disposal facilities for various categories of waste
  • Source separation at domestic and business premises
  • Neighbourhood drop-off facilities for recyclables
  • Rebates or tariff adjustments to incentivise households and businesses to reduce waste to landfill
  • Transport subsidies for recyclables distant from markets
  • Law enforcement to challenge and penelise littering, dumping and inappropriately transporting materials
  • Gardening and greening initiatives and the access to free municipal compost
  • Self-help schemes and job creation
  • Naming and shaming of dumpers of hazardous waste including medical waste
  • A careful and considered approach to new nuclear facilities and incineration plants
